Totaling 150 pages, this cookbook contains over 100 recipes and food stories that we hope inspire your next homemade dish. It features an abundance of Puerto Rican, Polish, Italian, and Lebanese dishes, a feature on pepperoni rolls, soups and stews for snowy weather, plenty of holiday
cookies, cakes, and pies, and much more. We are also proud to highlight five East Wheeling community food institutions in this book.
From hand-drawn illustrations and black-and-white photography, to our block-printed cover featuring the Ohio River and iconic Wheeling Suspension Bridge, we’ve produced this cookbook with care.
Many of the dishes and recipes featured in this book are connected to holiday traditions, cherished childhood memories, and various Wheeling institutions past and present. They highlight the various ways that many of us cook – from written recipes, memories, intuition, and practice – as well as the ways we learn to cook, often from those around us. We hope that reading sparks memories and musings for you, too, about meaningful recipes and food traditions in your own life.
The book was created by Emma Goldenthal, an AmeriCorps volunteer, with assistance and support from Corbin T Lanker, Grow Ohio Valley’s Assistant Education Program Manager. The two also illustrated the book. Photography and cover art are by Corbin.
